Activity
Camouflage like animals during a game of hide and seek!
Start by exploring animals that use camouflage to protect themselves, like brown snakes hiding in mulch, green tree frogs, or stick bugs. Encourage children to try to camouflage themselves—is it easy or hard to blend in?
Select a handful of items from the classroom, like plastic animals or other toys, and have half the group hide the items “in plain sight,” using camouflage techniques. Can the other half of the group find the items? Swap roles and try it again!
Materials
You can explore camouflage in nature with only found natural items, though these materials may be fun to include:
- Photos of animals
 - Animal figurines or plush animals
 - Fabric strips or scraps

Skill Building
Children practice problem-solving and creativity while experimenting with ways to blend in or hide objects, and strengthen social and communication skills through teamwork, turn-taking, and playful collaboration.
