Activity

Collect natural items during a walk, arrange them, then play a memory game by removing one and having your child guess what’s missing. Start by adding or removing something obvious, adding or removing smaller or more subtle items as their memory skills grow.

Now have your child quiz you! How many items can you remember?

Materials

For this activity, you only need what nature provides! When collecting, take only what a plant is no longer using (like leaves or petals that have fallen to the ground) and return items to nature when you are done with them.

Skill Building

This activity reinforces what young children are learning, such as shapes and colors, and encourages them to notice similarities and differences, which is an early math concept.
