Our Process
To create meaningful resources that truly support families and educators, we started by listening. We had honest conversations with caregivers and teachers to understand their challenges and needs. We examined what research tells us about the benefits of playing and learning outside. We built upon our expertise as a globally recognized environmental education organization, collaborated with experts in the field, and formed a team of advisors to help shape and review our work.
But we didn’t stop there. We put our ideas to the test, working with educators and caregivers to see what resonated, what worked in real-life settings, and where additional support was needed. Through this ongoing process, we’ve refined and improved our approach, ensuring that the materials we provide are practical, engaging, and responsive to the needs of our audiences.
As a result, we’ve developed resources that answer the big questions families and educators ask about playing and learning outside: How do I make it meaningful? How do I do it safely? Where do I go? And why does it matter?

Grounding Our Work
By grounding our work in real experiences, research, and expert insights, we’re creating tools that make it easier than ever for families and educators to bring nature into their daily lives, giving all children the lifelong benefits of outdoor play and learning.
As you explore our new website, you’ll meet children, parents, and educators discovering nature in their own homes, yards, schools, and neighborhoods. Their stories reflect our belief that there’s no single way to play, learn, or connect with nature—what matters most is finding what feels right for you.
