Activity
Play group games outside, like red leaf, green leaf (just like red light, green light) where children can collect red, yellow, and green leaves and then play the game with each other as they explore how to follow rules and learn about safety.
Can the children make up new rules to this game? Should they move like fast-moving animals when it is green? What animal could they move like when it is yellow? Could they pretend to be a sleeping animal when it’s red?
Materials
All you need for this activity is a wide open space.
Remind children to be aware of uneven ground and mark any features that could be a hazard, like a hole in the ground or a large root, with a brightly colored cone or flag.
